We are at the end of the decade, so I collect some ideas and impressions on the discs that I consider fundamental and inalienable, among those released in the year 2000. Still much to deepen and

Year 2000:
Pearl Jam - Binaural. The last great album of Seattle. The moments of weakness are already evident, Binaural but overall is a thrilling disc, which does not sound tired. There is a light touch and psychedelic space is space that in some songs like Nothing As It Seems and Sleight of Hand, real jewels of bassist Jeff Ament. Although the quality level is always maintained at these levels, the melancholy of Vedder and company rock is alive and sincere, and show how much the songs dirty Insignificance, Gods' Dice and Grievance, as the delicate ballads, exquisitely flavored pop as Light Years and Thin Air. Parting Ways is a sad goodbye, for me will be the end of a great love, against one of the greatest bands of the 90s.
Nevermore - Dead Heart In A Dead World. The metal of the new millennium is changed from this band. If they had already conceived in 1999 as a dark jewel Dreaming Neon Black, a year after the Seattle band back on stage by loosening the grip Gothic, and further modernize the sound. Their original thrash metal starring the incredible expressiveness of uvula Warrel Dane and guitarist Jeff Loomis majestic capacity. Melodic and powerful, energetic and melancholy, this album is really unique.
Electric Wizard - Dopet Hron. The psychedelic doom at its best. If Black Sabbath made a glimpse of the dark road that is hidden behind walls of distortion and hallucinogenic fumes, then many groups between late 80 and 90 will increase (Candlemass, Cathedral, Trouble etc etc) Electric Wizard's bring all this to the extreme. Distortions muddy and deep, psychedelic passages really alienating, dark atmospheres and drugged. Psychedelic black and bottomless.
Boris - Flood. Disc psychedelic with a thousand faces. You go from delicate ballads to super massive distortions and doom rhythms, hypnotic loops of guitar arpeggios from a storm of noise. The sound is dirty, rough, tube, because the school of origin is the noise.
It 's a psychedelic alienating, rather than relaxing. On a delicate, even the screaming and screeching solos, rather than rock. Nothing is conventional, in the minds of these Japanese distortion from easy
Radiohead - Kid A. After the amazing (and deserved) success of OK Computer, no one would have expected so sudden a change of course. Yet the British band does not look at anybody and conceives an extraordinary where electronics go to steal the lead role in the rock, without losing a moment of intensity. Epochal
Godspeed You! Black Em advocates - Lift Yr Skinny Fists Like Antennas to H eaven. Less dark of the previous album, the second work of Canadians is a long river melody that warms the heart. Four suites, somewhere between post rock and cosmic music, including soundtracks and classical music. A latch fluid and hypnotic, which is completely lost, with eyes closed.
Some dialogue is placed between the notes, some environmental noise pierces the long silences, and the result is a lively and sincere music, which in some passages reaches moments of pure poetry as the end of Storm.
Porcupine Tree - Lightbulb Sun Lightbulb Sun is the work more easy listening 'career Porcupine Tree, with its short, catchy songs, from solar atmosphere and relaxing. A record warm and charming with a skill and care arrangements for a truly unique, thanks to a wise use of full and empty. With sounds anything but mannered or already heard, Wilson enhances the beautiful pop melodies, leaving the right spaces between the various instruments, but never overlap with that class are intertwined in each other. The atmosphere is the strength of a record that slips between light and nostalgic melancholy lyrics, but also ironic. An atmosphere reminiscent of old memories and feelings, moments of lightheartedness and illusions collapsed by now, but once bright and energetic. As a long spring walk through meadows and tree-lined streets, savoring every detail of the nature around us. And reliving the avenue of our existence ... sweet melancholy. Realize that he is still here, in this street, despite everything. In Lightbulb Sun there is no room for aggression or darkness because the sun really shines with energy reassuring, nonetheless.
A Perfect Circle - Mer de Nomsa. Maynard James Keenan gives voice to the compositions of Billy Howerdel, and the result is an extraordinary twilight music, which draws as much by Depeche Mode from Alice in Chains. The mixture is exciting and in his twilight hides many faces, with a distinct personality. If the second half of the disc yields slightly in the first part is nothing short of memorable shows in alternating beautiful ballads to songs full of energy, with peaks of experimentation rarely so poignant in terms of emotional (Rose)
Ulver - Perdition City. A band that during its history has distorted his art and strikingly in the new millennium sees a disc unique and inimitable, drawing inspiration from many different influences (especially electronics, industrial and trip hop) without losing sight dark and meditative atmosphere. Music for a film within.
At the Drive In - Relationship of Command. When the energy hardcore meets the noise but never losing sight of the melody. A sort of Fugazi Latin, mixed with Rage Against the Machine more energetic, with a bit of a mix Stooges ... certainly not original but designed in an extraordinary way. The energy source of this disc is something inhuman. Nervous and unstoppable.
Raison D'Etre - The Empty Hollow Unfolds. Ambient very dark and deep, boundless space that evokes rusty ... like wandering into a huge industry abandoned, while the sunlight filters through the windows broken. Huge room, now devoid of life, but that still breathe and tell their stories.
rusted metal stride, carpets and keyboard fills the air .... creepy ....
Sunn O))) - 00 Void. A disc apparently immobile, and unoriginal. The Earth has created a few years before, more or less the same "music". But Sunn O))) clean up the sound, making it more compact and monolithic distortion, and conceive a hypnotic flow is absolutely impenetrable, a kind of cosmic music that flows underground. Pure vibration, no melody, no noise. Jack ass or masterpiece? I am for the second hypothesis
